Merlin big bang challenge.

I've been trying to contact the maintainers of boxofmagic through email and PM's to find out if it's running this year but have had no reply from any of them.

I'm still hopeful that one of them will reply and that boxofmagic itself will run this year, but if not, would anyone here be interested if I set up another Merlin fic big bang challenge community?

Just generally really asking what support there would be for such a community and what interest there would be in participating. So am going to include a poll below and also leave this post open so that those of you who are interested in this idea - in whatever capacity - could perhaps ask their own flists to consider this and then point them in the direction of the poll. So feel free to please ask your own flisters if they're interested and ask them to vote too so we can get a better idea if this is wanted or not; thank you =)

What I absolutely do not want to do is tread on anyone's toes here, and obviously what would make me happiest is if boxofmagic itself ran again this year. However if that can't happen for whatever reason, I'd like to try and enable some kind of Merlin big bang challenge to take place if I can.

I'm so glad someone is taking up the reigns if boxofmagic doesn't run it again this year. I've been contemplating signing up as a writer if anyone ever ran another one.

I'm interested in anyway.:) Maybe I'll participate as an artist. I made a video for last year's SGA Big Bang and I enjoyed this so much. A Merlin Big Bang would be fantastic!

I've never actually participated in any bigbang before, but then Merlin's the only fandom that I've written before.
I'm not really sure what a bigbang is, other than having to write a crapload in a set amount of time... but I need incentive to write and this is as good as any :)

I have been waiting for the Merlin Big Bang and am on board with the writing no matter who runs it. If you do decide to take it over, maybe send out feelers to see how people would prefer it archived, I know there were some murmuring last year about not everyone being comfortable with the stories hosted on the website, something about not feeling in control of their own work or some such.

I never heard any of those murmurings but did actually wonder about that myself, about whther people were happy with that kind of set-up, so yes, I'll be sure to do that, and thank you =)

Honestly don't know as it's all hypothetical right now and still haven't heard back from the boxofmagic mods. Will hopefully make a decision early next week depending on whther I've heard form them or not.

I checked writer too, BUT it really depends on the period when this would be happening. I'm rather busy atm, but I was just talking (like 5 min ago!) about writing something massive... so... ;)

I've never participated in a big bang challenge so I'm not certain how they work, but I'm interested in checking it out (as a writer).

Also, I can help with the community and website and all that if you'd like. I have knowledge of PHP and HTML and all that stuff so let me know if you want help with organization (because I really like organizing things, for some weird reason).

Just let us know how things turn out! I'll add you as a friend to keep up to date on how things are progressing.

And I've not seen that many 30/40k fics in the fandom, or even 20k, having a high word count threshold may limit participation?

I do have an idea in mind that would offer either/both options to participants if they wanted, but it's only an idea at the moment and I'd need to see what people thought if I went ahead with it.

I've got a fair few fics of that kind of word count (and higher!) bookmarked on my Delicious account so they're definitely out there! So will you be voting to participate as a writer?

I'd be interested as a beta reader and/or help with website/tech/coding/archiving. I'm managing a HP archive ATM and it's really honed in "what people want" sort of thing; so in terms of coding -- I am OK with that; and with the whole "trying to please everybody but being unable to so settling for trying to please most" I am getting in with that too. ;)

Oh, thank you! I've literally been checking boxofmagic every day after I noticed the poll was up, and was just about to email the mods because it's been nearly two months. I have a fic that I desperately want to write, but I'd like a deadline (hopefully before S3 starts).

What would be the wordcount minimum?

I've not even thought as far (yet) about wordcount minimums, etc, the only solid idea I have in my head is that posting would be September 1st; I just think it would be a great way to end the summer and also something to help start building the excitement (or whatever) just before S3 starts.
