1) wtf: Went to the first day of the air festival with my friend Sam today; weather was amazing and the displays were awesome and everything was going great...

... until I got stung on the lip by a wasp and had a motherfucker of an allergic reaction, which has never happened before. My bottom lip swelled up ENORMOUSLY (and just kept on and on swelling) to the point I couldn't speak properly and I spent about an hour and a half in the medical unit place being monitored and having drugs administered and holding ice packs to my mouth.

Awesome.

Went back down the beach for the 8pm dusk air display with Peter this evening; the swelling has gone down massively but I still look very strange - or like I've had a terrible botox accident - but hopefully it was dark enough that not too many people noticed. My agrophobe state is bad enough without knowing people are probably staring and pointing at me.

Hopefully it'll be back to normal by tomorrow; have more meds to take tonight to help the swelling go down. Sam has a pretty awful picture of me when the swelling was quite bad, so I'm sure she'll be showing that to everyone at work on Monday. I have such lovely friends.

2) geek: I've been watching a lot of episodes of The Big Bang Theory lately which I've only just got into, thanks to Peter. I've seen the first two seasons now and this is hands down the funniest scene so far; I know the lovely geeky people on my flist will appreciate this as much as I did:

It hurts and I look like a bit of a freak, but other than that I seem to be okay. They were a bit concerned for a while as it literally would not stop swelling, but finally it did so they let me go home as I told them Peter was here and I wouldn't be on my own.

I'm so stupidly self-conscious about going out the house anyway so that was the LAST thing I needed. And yes, I got stared at, though I'm not surprised, it did look pretty awful.

Ouch... I hop that lip goes down tomorrow too! Re: allergic reactions, it's usually the 2nd time or subsequent time you get a reaction to it because the first time u get stung, it's usually "building up" the rejection antibodies so the next time u come in contact with the allergen the whole inflammatory process starts. I hope that helps explain why you weren't allergic to wasps before.

Ack! Wasps freak me out. I was stung by one when I was 7 or 8 and I've been petrified ever since. Sounds like your experience was not fun at all. I hope it doesn't hurt when you wake up and that your lip is returned to normal.

Oh no, that sounds terrible! It's my personal nightmare, ever since I saw it on a TV show as a kid. (Show was called Emergency Call and featured re-enacted accidents and how people reacted and what they should have done etc.)
