Merlin big bang challenge

As a follow-on from this poll I have now heard from the mod over at boxofmagic and sadly it will not now be running this year.

I am in the process of trying to set something up - either taking over boxofmagic (awaiting mod permission) or setting up a different Big Bang comm - so if anyone is still interested please let me know! I don't have the time right now to cross-post this information and I want to get things running ASAP so feel free to spread the word and link to this post for now if anyone has any input they'd like to share.

Also feel free to leave any ideas & suggestions here, including a new community name in case we need to start from scratch; thank you ♥

Hi! I'm interested in a new Big-Bang and I was wondering if we could host it at Dreamwidth since the length limit (300,000 characters) will allow to host the complete fics there (without the need of an external website); it will also make the readability easier for those of us who read on mobile devices, I think.

And I'd be willing to help, too.

The plan I've had in my head since I posted the original poll is that we wouldn't use an external website for this, but would archive links at the community itself allowing people to post their fics however and wherever they wanted. Those who needed/wanted webspace I could help them out with that, but otherwise the choice of where they ultimately post would be up to them.

The community will still be hosted at LJ and if you wanted to post your finished fics at DW, then that would be fine.

Not sure if I've explained that properly so feel free to ask if I haven't =)

Sometimes I go off on one a bit so I'm glad I managed to get my point across! And yes, that's exactly what I want to happen, for the writers/artists to have that control but for everything posted to be linked to the community itself, making it the actual archive.

I know in my head how that will work but won't bore people with too much detail until (if) this is up and running =)

Hey, I'm in to help in whatever way you need. Do you need a co-mod? Someone to help with banners for pimping? Someone to help write rules and a schedule?

I definitely think the word count should be relatively low, because I don't think that people are going to be able to get 35k or 40k fics done in the amount of time available, and it seems like a pretty big concern for people that the bb go live before S3 starts airing in the UK.

Hello! I'm Shen. Myself and mcgooglykins are in the process of working out a mini big bang called Merlin Whizzbang Challenge for June/July. We were planning to have a minimum word count of 3,500, with a goal of 10,000 words. We're still in the planning stages, but it would be awesome if we could all join up and work this thing out together.

I think a mini Big Bang is a great idea for those who don't feel able to write a longer fic, and I wish you all the best of luck with it! I think that a lot of people who responded to the earlier poll I posted would like to still try and participate in a lengthier Big Bang if possible, though I see no reason why the two challenges (yours and ours) can't co-exist, and therefore cover everyones needs =)

Perhaps when we're both up and running we could affiliate or something?
