Merlin big bang challenge.

I've been trying to contact the maintainers of [livejournal.com profile] boxofmagic through email and PM's to find out if it's running this year but have had no reply from any of them.

I'm still hopeful that one of them will reply and that [livejournal.com profile] boxofmagic itself will run this year, but if not, would anyone here be interested if I set up another Merlin fic big bang challenge community?

Just generally really asking what support there would be for such a community and what interest there would be in participating. So am going to include a poll below and also leave this post open so that those of you who are interested in this idea - in whatever capacity - could perhaps ask their own flists to consider this and then point them in the direction of the poll. So feel free to please ask your own flisters if they're interested and ask them to vote too so we can get a better idea if this is wanted or not; thank you =)

What I absolutely do not want to do is tread on anyone's toes here, and obviously what would make me happiest is if [livejournal.com profile] boxofmagic itself ran again this year. However if that can't happen for whatever reason, I'd like to try and enable some kind of Merlin big bang challenge to take place if I can.

Not everyone is a fan of LJ either, especially since longer fics like these would need to go in multiple LJ posts. But I do like the idea of leaving it open to the writers where they want to post, and then having the mods do a nice, easy-to-navigate masterlist. The advantage of the AO3 is that it would create that masterlist automatically and in general make things easier on the mods, but you're right that it might drive down participation. Also I'm not sure how good the AO3 would be for hosting art.

Thanks for offering to do this, [livejournal.com profile] the_muppet! I loved reading and seeing the art at last year's Big Bang so I'd definitely like to see something like that happen again.

It just never crossed my mind that people wouldn't be a fan of LJ. That was extremely self centered of me. That's another good point about AO3, though I'm sure if someone contacted the people who ran AO3 they'd figure something out.

Then again another point is if you allow people to pick their own place you will get awful looking websites were it's almost impossible to read. But personally I feel that if they make their fic unreadable that's their own fault, not the fault of the challenge.

Still lots to work out then!
