4 things.

1) paper packages: My icon posts have been doing really well lately which has been lovely, but the latest batch did not do as well, so feeling a bit bleh about that. But then I'm stupid like that as I remind myself constantly =) However - thanks and hugs to [livejournal.com profile] prfctdaze who pimped [livejournal.com profile] paper_packages on her LJ today - much appreciated ♥ I also did an icon meme thing over there today.

2) harry potter: I'll just start by saying it's [livejournal.com profile] coffeejunkii's fault, okay? I've never been into the Harry Potter fandom and had only ever seen the first 3 films, but she posts a recap thing of [livejournal.com profile] dracolicious/[livejournal.com profile] boywholives regularly and for some reason unknown to me I've been reading it lately. Which then lead me to actually borrow all the Harry Potter films from my brother to watch, which I did this weekend. Idek. I enjoyed rewatching the first 2 films again and think they can stand alone without having read the books (which I haven't) but by the time I got to the 4th/5th I began to think a bit more background info was necessary - they seem to me as someone who'd not read any of the books to be quite disjointed. Still enjoyable though, but there was depth missing that I think you'd only get from knowing the complete story. And yeah, I know they can't pack the whole book into the film, but there were sections in those films I found just a little lacking. Anyways - I'm sort of hooked on reading her regular [livejournal.com profile] dracolicious/[livejournal.com profile] boywholives recaps. lol.

3) kawoosh/impala: I'm still getting emails/LJ messages from people about kawoosh/impala stuff like 'why hasn't my vid been listed yet/my website details need changing/etc'. I refer any of you to whom this applies to this post here. I am no longer involved and there's nothing I can do about your queries - you need to go to the site and use the contact forms to directly contact whoever is now taking care of all this. And that's not me. So please don't.

4) smart people: Finally, belated congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] aramley who proved just how awesome she is by getting a 2:1 from Oxford! Well deserved sweetie ♥

*hugs to all*

I started to slash Harry & Draco lately. After years of staying happily out of this fandom (albeit not out of the books/movies). Just don't tell anyone... ;)

[identity profile] coffeejunkii.livejournal.com 2009-07-14 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
well, you know, the prisoner of azkaban film in combination with the rpg were my gateway drugs to hp fandom, too :D. before poa came out, i was actively resisting hp even though a friend kept telling me i'd love harry/draco fic. but the film was so good just as a film that i got curious, and then a few days later, she sent me a link to one of dracolicious' posts, and...well. that was that!

i'm so thrilled you are enjoying the recaps--i hope you've ventured over to read the boys' posts as well. you don't need to know that much hp canon to follow it, really, and if anything confuses you, you should totally feel free to ask.

Regarding number 3.

Ok, you already know I'm a bitch but you might need to know I sniggered a bit, well probably a whole load over that - I know the posts and e-mails must be annoying to you and I'm sorry about that part, but I sniggered none the less...I may have chortled just a tad too.

Is this post locked? Oh, so what, who gives a shit eh?

Great the icons are doing well, I wouldn't worry too much, the whole of l/j has been pretty quiet just lately.

**hugs**

In my opinion the Harry Potter movies are pretty much just the barest outline of the plot to give an excuse to all the pretty, and then there's some additional dramatic elements just to make it more of a movie :) And of course there's less with the pretty and more with the dark elements as the movies go on, but that's what happens with the books as well... The books aren't really any jewels of literature, but they are enjoyable and entertaining and there's lots of great fanfic (and even more of bad, bad, bad fanfic, but that's what happens when a fandom is really popular...) so I'm firmly clinging to the edges of the fandom :)

What does getting a 2:1 mean?

Re #3. Aww, I didn't know you resigned. I haven't been online very much these last couple of weeks. I'm going to miss you over there. Thanks for keeping the gate open.

Re #2. My interest in Harry Potter has only ever been Snape, and that was before there was talk of movies. And when Alan Rickman got cast I about died!

Welcome to the Harry Potter fandom . I love my snarry, and drarry and puppylove but mainly snarry and Sev in general and yes I do love Alan quite on his own. It is just a gigantic plus that he plays Severus

@2 - My mom, sister, and I are all huge Potter fans. We like really discussing the finer points, character developments, etc. It's much like discussing literature in university the way we do it *lol* We were planning on going and seeing it tomorrow, but we might wait until Thursday to avoid (some of) the crowds. Then next week we're going to see it in IMAX, and then we'll probably see it again when it comes to the base.

I like the books more, but the movies are very well done. The casting is fantastic!

When Deathly Hallows came out, we preordered 2 copies from Amazon, but then my mom went out that morning and got a copy as well. Three copies for a four person household *lol* We didn't talk to each other for a couple days :)

I like that the complexity of the books/the themes grow deeper/darker as Harry gets older. The first book, when he's 11, isn't super dark. But sixteen year-olds are dark and angsty! There aren't many series of books that follows a character over that many years while adjusting for age as required. And the plot was just so well thought out, tiny things mentioned in book one (seemingly in passing) turn out to be of vital importance later on; it's almost like a whodunit in a way :)

*hehe* One of the tricks I'm teaching Lily is to turn on/off one of the lights in the living room (it has a switch on the floor that one steps on.) The command I'm using is "lumos", since the light will "magically" come on when I say it *lol* I'm a dork, I know ;)

You really should read the books though, you get so much more out of them! You can defiantly get them done by the next movie ("Deathly Hallows Part I") I agree about the first two being able to stand on their own; it's the same way with the books. The first few repeat details so that if you haven't read the others you'll get by. However, the later books are very much "if you haven't read the previous ones, too bad, I'm not going to explain it again. So, in that sense, the movies are very true to the books :)

yay you definitely miss a lot after the 2nd film. reading the books makes things make sense :) i haven't thought much about HP until a few weeks ago now with the new movie coming out i'm starting to obsess over it again lol. And I agree with a lot of the commenters and you Alan Rickman rocks and so does Snape (i may be a tad obsessed with him) :P

that site is gonna be so lost w/out you girl but i'm glad you got out :) Very glad for your sake.

Mwah! ♥

Thank you so much *hugs* I don't think I've told you how much your support and encouragement and friendship meant to me over the past couple of months, with exams and finishing and everything, but it's meant the world to me ♥

I thought I was one of the only people on earth who wasn't into Harry Potter! Glad to know I'm not alone. Or, uh, I wasn't alone. The thing about Harry Potter is that I SHOULD absolutely adore it. It's the kind of thing I love - fantasy! So I feel as though it's weird that I'm not. I saw about half of the first movie and the second movie, but I've never allowed myself to get sucked in. Let me know how it treats you. Maybe I'll join the party late in the game ;)

(And yes....I know my icon is HP based....but I didn't know this until someone pointed it out to me! I just thought it was a hilarious icon ;))

[identity profile] prfctdaze.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs* I was more than happy to share the icon goodness of [livejournal.com profile] paper_packages with my friends list :) Pretty icons just put me in such a good mood. And yours are gorgeous!

I'm looking forward to the new Harry Potter film, but I'll wait until the mad rush is over before I see it. It's entertaining but I haven't gotten into HP fanfiction or anything. Too many fandoms, not enough time ^_^

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
Harry Potter as a fandom scares me, I have, however read the books and seen the movies to date. :)

I assume no one has taken over Kawoosh/Impala or they don't do it regularly. You put so much work in over there, you're gonna be hard to replace. *which makes me snigger slightly too... and it's so not at your expense*

*hugs*
